No human being can succeed without discipline. It does not matter whether you intend to earn honest living or whether you wish to cheat people for living. Without discipline, you will always be a failure.
Many parents understand this but find it very frustrating that they are not in a position to get this point across to their children. They often feel that the child is not paying enough attention to their lectures on discipline.
Well, this can be very ironic because those who are now giving lectures were probably not interested in listening to the lectures on discipline when they were young themselves. Despite this, people often repeat the mistakes their parents committed.
Rather than lecturing about the importance of discipline, why don’t you come up with productive ways to overcome this problem? There is no point in talking about discipline unless you are ready to teach the child to be patient.
Without patience, discipline will never offer results. The very logic behind discipline is to achieve the final goal by sticking to one’s effort and continuing the same no matter how difficult the path becomes.
The child will have to understand that quick and easy results are not always the best. To continue doing something which involves sacrifice of comforts and luxuries for greater final goal-that is discipline.
Again, lecturing the child about the importance of patience is as futile as the lecturing the child about the importance of discipline. Try to show the fact that patience is beneficial. How? Children learn from their environment and surroundings.
If they are surrounded by a patient people are ready to work towards a final goal in a disciplined and dedicated manner, they will automatically become discipline themselves. This is the simplest and most effective parenting tip as far as discipline is concerned.
